Fred Renata

In Fred, the enigmatically creative and the technical detail met head on. He is deeply engaged in the idea behind the work. Fred as a cinematographer manipulates light, in his songwriting the lyrics and across many instruments in his own music making.

His artwork is deeply anchored to responding to his personal interactions with people and places, but he also has a dedication to fostering creativity on a community scale. Fred has come full circle, growing up in Maungaturoto, travelling the world and returning to encourage and inspire the next generation.

Fred has spent time with Ralph Hotere in his studio, who’s own process no doubt added to Freds unique observations. Whether with hammer and chisel, paint and brush, or using another artistic tool of his own devising -we always are excited to see what will come out of Freds creative space next.
