Taisha Brehaut

Taisha began her career as a Conceptual sculptor, exhibiting with Billy Apple at Teststrip Gallery in Auckland. One steel strip crossed the entry of the gallery.

Following her undergraduate art studies in New Zealand, where at Elam, Greer Twiss, Christine Hellyer and Derrick Cherrie were among her tutors, she embarked on a life changing trip to Yale. It was a steep endeavor, applying, being accepted, then saving and working her way through, but she did it, completing her Masters in 2000.

Although her practice incorporates a range of media from fine, linear drawings to site specific sculpture, following her studies she began to paint.

Notable series include her “Landmarks,” which are large oil paintings depicting a single white flag before a vast wall. Initially installed as a solo show at Connecticut’s Silvermine Guild Galleries, then travelling to Saatchi and Saatchi in New York and onto Wellington.

At the core of Taisha’s works, whether her drawing, painting or sculpture, is a keen sense for her environment and a sensitivity to line, placement and light.

She is collected internationally and has received notable reviews and shown consistently throughout her career. She is pleased to call Kaipara her home.
