The Journey of MGTO Gallery:
A Space Born from Collaboration and Hard Work

Nestled in the heart of Maungaturoto, beneath the Anglican Church, a unique transformation has been taking place over the past few weeks. What was once an empty, unassuming space is now on the verge of becoming a vibrant hub for art and creativity—the MGTO Gallery. This exciting journey began with a passionate collective of local artists, each driven by a shared vision to bring art closer to the community and to breathe new life into what once had housed the local op shop.

A Labour of Love

The artists behind MGTO Gallery have spent countless hours over the last few weeks renovating the space, pouring not only their time but their hearts into every brushstroke,  piece of furniture, and structural change. From constructing new walls to painting the interior, from organising the layout and outfitting the gallery, no detail has been overlooked. The collaborative effort has been nothing short of remarkable, with each artist contributing their expertise, time and funds towards the renovation process.

The work itself has been grueling at times, but it’s been incredibly rewarding to see the transformation take shape. The space, once a blank canvas in its own right, is now a work of art in and of itself, thanks to the dedication and determination of those involved, it has been a true testament to the power of community.

Crafting a Vision

The vision behind the gallery is not just to showcase art, but to create a space where the community can gather, interact, and celebrate creativity in all its forms. The location beneath the Anglican Church gives the gallery a unique charm, with its blend of history and a modern twist. It’s not only about exhibiting art—it’s about creating an atmosphere that fosters inspiration, collaboration, and connection.

The MGTO Gallery’s opening, just two weeks away, promises to be an exciting occasion, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Maungaturoto arts scene—one that encourages creative expression, builds community, and supports the thriving local artist community.

A New Beginning

As we count down the days to the opening, the excitement is palpable. Each day brings us closer to unveiling a space that will be both a gallery and a cultural destination, a place for art lovers and creatives to come together. The past weeks of hard work are a reminder of the commitment it takes to bring a vision to life, but the collective effort of the artists involved is proof that anything is possible when a community comes together with a shared goal.

We invite you to come and say hi whether a newcomer, or someone who simply appreciates the beauty of creativity, there’s something for everyone. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey, and we can’t wait to see where it will take us.
